On Sunday, December 28, a service and vigil will be held at his residence in Kitale before the body is moved to Lumakanda, Lugari, on Monday, December 29. Burial is scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at his rural home in Lumakanda.
To ensure smooth coordination, family members and the funeral committee are holding daily meetings at 4 pm at United Kenya Club in Nairobi. Additional planning sessions are taking place at Whispers Gigiri, Maili Saba in Kitale, and Lumakanda in Lugari.
Jirongo, 64, passed away suddenly on the morning of December 13, 2025. An autopsy report has revealed that he died from blunt force trauma following a serious accident in Naivasha on Saturday.
A team of pathologists led by Dr. Johansen Oduor, which included three family doctors, reported multiple fractures to the legs, ribs, and spine, along with heavy internal bleeding into the chest and abdominal cavities.
The doctors confirmed that the injuries were so severe that Jirongo died instantly. Samples have been collected for toxicological studies to provide a deeper understanding of the circumstances surrounding his death.
The former Lugari MP was the son of the late Paul Jirongo and Selina Ikonanga Jirongo. He is survived by his wives Anne Kanini, Christine Nyokabi, and Ann Lanoi, as well as children, grandchildren, and extended family.
He was also a brother to the late Samson Indoshi, Alfayo Shimbiro, Zipporah Ingefu, Mary Khaendekha, the late David Likhakhasi, Esther Injete, Rebecca Mudeizi, the late Nathan Shisanya, Gladys Khamete, Rose Isausi, and Grace Shiviangu. His late in-laws include Jackson Nzioka and Blanche Nzioka, Walter Kimani and Grace Nyambura, and Stephen and Virginia Pertet.
Jirongo devoted more than half of his 64 years to public service. He served as Member of Parliament for Lugari Constituency for two non-consecutive terms and held office as Minister for Rural Development.
He was a key political figure, founding Youth for KANU '92 after the re-introduction of multiparty democracy in 1990. He later ran for president in 2017 and led the United Democratic Party (UDP) until his death.
In addition to politics, Jirongo had a vibrant business career, serving as chairman of Shiftings Ltd, Shale Investments, Moran Cement, and African Mineral House.
His investments spanned energy, construction, mining, and agriculture. He attended Mang'u High School, earned a Higher National Diploma from Cambridge College, and completed an Executive MBA at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology
