Kibunguchy first entered the political scene in 2003, succeeding the late Cyrus Jirongo as Lugari MP and serving a single term until 2007. He later represented Likuyani Constituency for two successive terms from 2013 to 2022, leaving a mark on both communities.

Former Lugari and Likuyani MP,  Enoch Kibunguchy, has died at Eldoret Hospital following a prolonged illness. He was 72.

Kibunguchy first entered the political scene in 2003, succeeding the late Cyrus Jirongo as Lugari MP and serving a single term until 2007. He later represented Likuyani Constituency for two successive terms from 2013 to 2022, leaving a mark on both communities.

His political journey saw him align with several parties, including FORD-Kenya, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), and, most recently, the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), which he joined this year.

Beyond politics, Kibunguchy had a notable career in the health sector. He was the Assistant Director of Medical Services at the Ministry of Health and held senior positions at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and Coast General Hospital, contributing to Kenya’s medical services.

Current Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera described Kibunguchy as a leader whose influence went beyond Parliament.
"Our bond went beyond politics. I knew him as a calm, warm, and deeply thoughtful individual, one who listened more than he spoke, and whose counsel was always rooted in wisdom and sincerity," Nabwera said.

Kibunguchy’s family is expected to share further details during a briefing at Eldoret Hospital at 9 am.

ODM Director of Communication Philip Etale also mourned the late politician, calling him a pillar of Lugari.
"Another tree has fallen. The larger Lugari has lost. We have been plunged into mourning again. Even before we lay to rest CJ, his successor in the 2002 general election Dr. Enoch Wamalwa Kibunguchi has rested," Etale said.
"He would later serve the people of the newly created Likuyani Constituency for two consecutive terms (2013-2022). Sad day for the people of Lugari. Sad month for the people of Lugari. Sad year for the people of Lugari. Lugari has lost. Go well Mheshimiwa."
