Speaking after touring projects in Taita Taveta County, he said the administration is determined to unite Kenyans and ensure every region benefits from national programmes.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday declared that the government will stay focused on delivering development across the country and will not be sidetracked by leaders he accused of pushing tribal division for political gain.

Speaking after touring projects in Taita Taveta County, he said the administration is determined to unite Kenyans and ensure every region benefits from national programmes.

Kindiki said the Kenya Kwanza administration is rolling out projects in all parts of the country without favour, insisting that development is a right for every citizen regardless of tribe, religion or region. He maintained that the government’s priority is to serve the entire nation and strengthen unity.

“We are serving all Kenyans because we only have one country. I am a proud Kenyan to see the transformation that is happening across the country. The development transformation is happening without discrimination along tribal, region or religious affiliation. We have one country, one nation, one people and all of us are entitled to development,” DP noted.

During his visit, the Deputy President inspected the ongoing construction of the Mto Mwagodi–Msau–Mbale–Wundayi–Bura Road and the Mwatunge ESP Market in Mwatate.

He pointed out that Taita Taveta is among the counties gaining from what he described as an equitable development plan being implemented under President William Ruto.

He said several road projects, modern markets, affordable housing units, hostels and electricity connections worth billions of shillings are at different stages of completion in the coastal county.

In total, Sh15.6 billion has been allocated for road works in the area.

The Deputy President asked the contractor handling the Mto Mwagodi–Msau–Mbale–Wundayi–Bura Road to speed up construction, warning that the project risks falling behind schedule.

He noted that the road is vital as it connects Taveta and Mwatate constituencies. He also observed that the tarmacking of the Taveta–Chala–Njukini–Rombo–Illasit Road, which links Taita Taveta and Kajiado counties, is progressing.

On trade infrastructure, he said the Mwatunge Market is now 99 per cent complete. Other modern markets in Voi, Maungu, Taveta and Bura Ndogo are also nearing completion.

Among other key projects funded by the administration in the county is the construction of 340 hostels at Mwatate Technical Training Institute at a cost of Sh154 million, and 1,630 hostels at Taita Taveta University.

There is also an electricity connection programme worth Sh450 million targeting an additional 5,700 households.

“I will work with Taita Taveta leaders to increase the allocation for more homes to be connected to electricity,” he promised.

The Deputy President said young people are among those benefiting from the ongoing projects and cautioned them against being misled by opposition leaders.

He accused his rivals of lacking a clear plan for the youth and using them for political battles.

“We don’t want our youth to be misused by politicians who have no plan for them. They only see them as bloggers, goons and hecklers but for us in Kenya Kwanza led by President Ruto we see them as great contributors to our nation’s growth,” he stated.
