President William Ruto has announced that the Government will rename Shauri Moyo Housing Estate in Nairobi in honour of the late MP Johana Ng’eno, allocate Sh20 million annually for musicians for five years, and provide Sh20 million to support land acquisition for a Maasai Mara University branch in Emurua Dikirr Constituency.
The president made the announcements on Friday while paying tribute to the late legislator, who served as Chairperson of the Housing Committee in the National Assembly.

The estate, located in Nairobi, will now carry the late MP’s name as part of the government’s tribute.
Shauri Moyo estate is one of the largest affordable housing developments in Nairobi, designed to help reduce the housing deficit and provide decent homes for low- and middle-income families.
It comprises a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units with social and commercial amenities and, under earlier plans, was projected to deliver thousands of new homes to city residents
Phase designs have included high-density apartments to maximise land use and serve a broad range of households.
The President said the renaming pays tribute to Ng’eno’s leadership as chair of the parliamentary housing committee, which oversaw implementation of major housing projects, including this, that accommodates around 4,500 residents.
The president also announced financial support for the creative sector, citing Ng’eno’s passion for empowering musicians.
“In remembrance of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno’s work and passion for empowering musicians, President Ruto has announced that the Government of Kenya, through the Ministry of Arts, will set aside 20 million each year for the next five years to support and empower musicians in his memory,” he said.
The funding initiative will be implemented through the Ministry of Arts, according to the statement.
President Ruto further pledged support for education infrastructure in Narok County, specifically in Emurua Dikirr Constituency.
He promised to provide financial assistance to Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu to help acquire land for a university branch.
“I promise to give Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu Sh20 million to acquire land for the construction of a Maasai Mara University branch in Emurua Dikirr Constituency, continuing the late Johana Ng'eno's ambition,” the statement read.
The proposed university branch will be linked to Maasai Mara University, expanding higher education opportunities in the region.
Ng’eno, who represented Emurua Dikirr Constituency in Parliament, had been widely recognised for championing housing projects, youth empowerment, and infrastructure development. He also chaired the National Assembly Housing Committee.
During the burial ceremony in Narok County, leaders described the late MP as a committed public servant whose development agenda focused on improving livelihoods.
President Ruto’s announcement included three major commitments, renaming the Nairobi housing estate, allocating annual funding for musicians, and supporting land acquisition for the Maasai Mara University branch.
The renaming of Shauri Moyo Housing Estate is intended to honour Ng’eno’s contribution to the housing sector. The project is located in Nairobi, and will now bear his name as part of the tribute.
The annual allocation of Sh20 million for five years is aimed at supporting and empowering musicians, reflecting the late MP’s interest in the creative industry.
Meanwhile, the pledge to support land acquisition for a university branch in Emurua Dikirr is expected to advance higher education access in the constituency.
The burial ceremony also brought together political leaders and members of the public who gathered to celebrate Ng’eno’s life and service.
Among the leaders present was Narok Governor, Patrick Ole Ntutu, who has previously spoken about ongoing development projects linked to the late MP.

President Ruto concluded his remarks by linking the pledges to Ng’eno’s legacy, stating that the initiatives were meant to preserve his contributions and ambitions.
The announcements are expected to be implemented through relevant government ministries and agencies, with further details anticipated in the coming weeks.
As Kenya continues to mourn the late legislator, the commitments made during the burial ceremony signal ongoing government engagement with projects associated with his work and vision.
