Former Chief Justice David Maraga has stepped up his early mobilisation for the 2027 presidential race, revealing that his campaign has already received Sh8 million from Kenyans who have opted to support him through public contributions.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Maraga expressed appreciation to supporters, saying the amount collected so far reflects a strong sense of belief among citizens who want to be part of shaping national leadership. He noted that the backing he has received is coming from everyday Kenyans who are actively choosing to participate in the process.
“Eight million shillings. Given by Kenyans. Ordinary, determined, faithful Kenyans who refuse to give up on this country. I am humbled and deeply grateful,” Maraga stated.
He described the contributions as more than financial support, saying they represent a shared commitment by citizens who remain hopeful about the country’s direction and future.
Maraga further called on those who have not yet made contributions to join in, while urging his current supporters to help widen the reach of the initiative by encouraging others to take part.
“If you have not yet contributed, today is the day. If you have, tell someone. Share the details. Keep the fire burning. This is not my campaign. This is Kenya’s moment. Let us not waste it,” Maraga added.
Earlier on March 30, Maraga had reached out to Kenyans asking for financial support for his presidential bid, framing the effort as one that should be driven by citizens rather than large financiers.
He explained that public contributions would ensure the campaign remains accountable to voters, adding that shared ownership would strengthen trust between the candidate and the electorate.
"I am appealing to you to make a donation to the campaign. If my campaign is funded by donations from you, the everyday Kenyan, then it becomes our campaign. And I will be accountable to you, the everyday Kenyan," he stated.
Maraga has maintained that he intends to depend largely on small contributions from individuals, and has already set up channels through which supporters can send funds, including his official campaign website and M-Pesa Paybill number 4164137, using account number 4164137.
He first outlined his funding approach in July 2025, when he said he expected Kenyans to play a central role in financing his campaign, while expressing confidence that the public would respond positively.
“We will require a substantial amount of money. We are going to appeal to Kenyans to contribute to our campaign, and it is going to succeed. Kenyans will themselves fund this election,” said Maraga.
He also indicated that he would personally contribute between Sh1 million and Sh2 million to the campaign, noting that his own financial input would be limited compared to what he expects from public support.
“I will put in very little money, Sh1 million or Sh2 million, I don't have much money," he added.
