The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has warned Kenyans against a new online scam in which fraudsters are posing as the agency on TikTok to lure motorists seeking driving licence and other transport-related services.
In a fraud alert issued through its X account on Friday, the authority said the fake TikTok pages are being used to deceive members of the public into believing they are official NTSA customer support channels. It cautioned motorists and other road users against interacting with the accounts or the phone numbers linked to them.
The authority identified the fraudulent TikTok accounts as @n.t.s.a.254 and @ntsacustomersupport7247, making it clear that they have no connection with NTSA.
"NTSA fraud alert!!! These TikTok accounts, @n.t.s.a.254 and @ntsacustomersupport7247, are impersonating NTSA. NTSA does not operate any TikTok account. Do not engage @n.t.s.a.254 and @ntsacustomersupport7247 on TikTok."
NTSA also revealed three mobile phone numbers that it said are being used by the fraudsters to communicate with unsuspecting members of the public.
The numbers are 0782 600 843, 0751 084 215, and 0736 482 886.
The authority urged Kenyans to avoid any contact with the listed numbers and the fake TikTok pages, warning that they are part of a scam aimed at misleading people looking for transport and licensing services.
Screenshots released by NTSA show the fake accounts advertising driving licence class endorsements and other services commonly offered by the authority. The posts invite members of the public to make enquiries through direct messages, WhatsApp or phone calls using the published mobile numbers.
Some of the advertisements claim to help motorists obtain driving licence endorsements for various vehicle categories, including Class B, C, C1 and E, while presenting the services as if they are being offered by NTSA.
The authority stressed that it does not provide customer support through TikTok and advised members of the public to verify any information through its official communication channels before seeking assistance.
Motorists and other road users requiring support were advised to submit enquiries and complaints through the authority's official website and designated email addresses.
NTSA also reminded the public that it offers customer support through its contact centre, official SMS platforms and verified social media accounts.
According to the authority, its official support channels handle services such as motor vehicle inspection, vehicle registration, driving licence enquiries, public service vehicle licensing, driving school management and complaints.
It further encouraged members of the public to use its web complaint platform when seeking assistance or reporting service-related issues instead of relying on unofficial online accounts.
The warning comes amid growing cases of fraudsters creating social media accounts that closely resemble those of government agencies in an effort to obtain money or personal information from unsuspecting members of the public.
By publicly exposing the fake TikTok accounts and the phone numbers linked to them, NTSA said it aims to protect motorists from online fraud while encouraging them to rely only on its verified communication channels for transport and licensing services.
The authority also urged anyone who comes across the fake accounts to report and block them immediately and continue accessing NTSA services only through officially recognised platforms.
