Six arraigned in Homa Bay over alleged plans to commit felonies

Six men have been arraigned in Homa Bay in separate cases over allegations of being armed with pangas, knives and a Maasai sword, with prosecutors accusing some of them of preparing to commit felonies and intending to cause bodily harm.

Nicholas Ochieng Bonyo, Issa Juma Abiero and Brian Ooko Ohanga appeared before Homa Bay Resident Magistrate Lavender Mukhongo and denied charges of preparation to commit a felony.

The court heard that the three were allegedly found together on August 14, 2026, at Nyangweso Trading Centre in Homa Bay Sub-County while in a motor vehicle carrying two pangas and a kitchen knife.

Prosecutors told the court that they were allegedly armed “with the intent to assault causing actual bodily harm.”

The three will return to court for mention of their case on August 26.

In a separate case before Magistrate Mukhongo, Hillary Odhiambo Otieno and James Oloo Otieno also denied charges of preparation to commit a felony.

The prosecution alleged that the two were found on August 16 along the Rodi-Ndhiwa highway in Homa Bay Sub-County while travelling in a motor vehicle with five pangas.

They were accused of being armed with the intention of assaulting and causing actual bodily harm.

Magistrate Mukhongo granted each of them a bond of Sh250,000 with one surety. Their case will be mentioned on September 3.

The sixth accused, Jared Onyango alias Jaro, was separately arraigned at Oyugis Law Courts over allegations of being armed with a Maasai sword.

Onyango appeared before Resident Magistrate Damaris Kimeli and denied the charge.

Prosecutors told the court that he was allegedly found on August 16 along the Kisii-Oyugis road in Rachuonyo South Sub-County “in circumstances that indicated he was armed with the intent to commit a felony”.

The court granted him a Sh50,000 bond or Sh10,000 cash bail.

His case will be mentioned on August 31.
