In Summary

What began with a Greek shocker soon became a masterclass in finishing, pace and ruthless instinct from the French superstar.

Kylian Mbappé turned a tense Champions League night into a personal showcase, firing four goals as Real Madrid scraped past Olympiacos in a pulsating encounter in Athens.

What began with a Greek shocker soon became a masterclass in finishing, pace and ruthless instinct from the French superstar.

Early Shock and a Swift Response

Olympiacos stunned the visitors with a 20-yard thunderbolt from Francisco Chiquinho that silenced the crowd and put the hosts ahead. The lead, however, barely had time to breathe. Mbappé answered with a whirlwind salvo, ripping through the game’s momentum and rewriting the script in a matter of minutes.

A Hat-Trick for the Ages

Mbappé’s second, third and fourth strikes arrived in breathtaking fashion. He opened his account by racing onto Vinícius Júnior’s exquisite through-ball and slotting home with ice-cold composure.

Moments later he rose to head in Arda Güler’s cross, then ghosted beyond the offside line to latch onto Eduardo Camavinga’s pass and complete a hat-trick — three goals in seven minutes, the second fastest treble in Champions League history.

A VAR intervention later wiped out a Vinícius goal that Mbappé had helped create, but the damage was already done.

Drama at Both Ends

Real’s makeshift backline,  missing five defenders and their first-choice goalkeeper through injury and illness, still managed to press and dominate, with Aurélien Tchouaméni rattling the bar. Olympiacos refused to wilt: substitute Mehdi Taremi thundered a header back into contention, and later Ayoub El Kaabi’s late header rekindled hope for the Greeks. Mbappé, however, sealed the night with a close-range poke from Vinícius’s pass to complete his quartet.

Records and Context

The victory snapped Real’s three-game winless run and marked their first competitive triumph in Athens after nine previous attempts.

Mbappé’s haul pushed him to nine Champions League goals in five games — his most prolific campaign in the competition so far — and 22 goals in 18 matches across all competitions for the season.

His four-goal night was the fourth time in his career he’s netted four or more in a single game, and it made him the first Real player to score four in a European away match. He also now holds the record for most away hat-tricks in European Cup and Champions League history.

Player Reaction and Performance Notes

“I feel good, I’m very happy,” Mbappé said after the match. “Scoring goals is always a pleasure for me. My teammates give me lots of great passes.” Clinical and electric, he needed just six shots to produce four goals, exploiting his blistering pace to run in behind and punish any defensive lapse.

What Comes Next

Real Madrid return to the Santiago Bernabéu to face Manchester City in their next Champions League fixture, while Olympiacos travel to Kairat Almaty. For Madrid, the win restores momentum and underlines that when Mbappé is in this mood, few defences look safe. For Olympiacos, the night offered proof of spirit and a reminder that even giants can be troubled on home soil.
