Waridi, Mango shine at PIPSSA Championships in Nairobi

Eleven-year-old Velma Waridi of Moi Educational Centre powered to victory in the girls' 100m freestyle, touching the wall in 1:35.01, while 13-year-old Neville Mango of Toto Skaters won the boys' 100m skating race in 12.15 seconds at the Private and International Prep Schools Sports Association (PIPSSA) Kenya Swimming and Skating Championships held at Kiota School, Nairobi, on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

The one-day competition attracted schools and clubs from across the country. Waridi led a Moi Educational Centre clean sweep in the girls' 100m freestyle, finishing ahead of Maya Luseno and Rubie-Essie, who claimed silver and bronze respectively.

"I'm really impressed by my time today. My dream is to continue improving and one day represent Kenya at the World Aquatics Championships," said Velma.

In the boys' swimming competition, 12-year-old Jayson Idris of Kilimani Junior School produced a commanding performance to win the 25m breaststroke in 22.87 seconds. Kyle Mwangi of Leyians Swimming Club finished second, while Arthur Munene of Mutongoni Academy took third place.

In the skating competition, Neville Mango sprinted to victory in the boys' 100m race, edging out Hermis Muriuki of Northlanders and Alex Mwangi of Troupers, who finished second and third respectively.

Skating team standings

In the girls' category, Misc Syokimau emerged champions with 466 points, ahead of Toto Skaters (292) and Starshine (218).

In the boys' category, Northlanders claimed the title with 341 points, followed by Starshine on 279 points, while Troupers completed the podium with 272 points.

In the overall standings, Kitengela International topped the rankings with 646 points, followed by Toto Skaters with 555 points, while Starshine finished third with 497 points.

Swimming team standings

Moi Educational Centre dominated the girls' swimming competition with 1,911 points, ahead of Thomas Burke (932) and Leyians Swimming Club (768).

In the boys' category, Strathmore emerged champions with 1,913 points, followed by Kilimani Junior School with 778 points, while Moi Educational Centre finished third with 552 points.

Schools and clubs represented at the championships included Moi Educational Centre, Leyians Swimming Club, Foresight Academy, Northlanders Skating Club, Troupers, Mutongoni Academy, Kilimani Junior School and several others.
