IBO middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr has been fined 100,000 British pounds (Approx. Ksh 16M) by the British Boxing Board of Control for slapping upcoming opponent Conor Benn with an egg at a press conference in February, British media reported on Tuesday.
As the fighters faced off on stage, Eubank pulled an egg from his pocket and smashed it against Benn’s face, sparking an on-stage altercation as promoter Eddie Hearn and Benn’s father Nigel tried to get at Eubank and his team.
The British Boxing Board of Control released a statement following the incident.
“Following a hearing before the stewards of the British Boxing Board of Control, Chris Eubank Jnr was found to be in breach of regulation 25 (misconduct) for his conduct at the press conference in Manchester for the Chris Eubank Jnr v Conor Benn contest on 26th April 2025," said the Board.
The World Boxing Council cleared Benn of intentional doping in 2023, saying a "highly elevated consumption of eggs" was a reasonable explanation for a failed drug test. He was eventually cleared of the offense.
Eubank and Benn will fight at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 26, having originally been due to face off in October 2022 before Benn’s failed tests forced the fight to be called off.
Benn originally tested positive for the female fertility drug clomifene but was cleared following investigations.
Eubank Jr cited the egg fiasco as the reason why he slapped Benn with an egg ahead of their bout.
"Live by the egg, die by the egg," he wrote on Instagram after the altercation.
