Nigerian artist Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has voiced profound grief following the death of a young woman during his concert at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi on Saturday, December 20.
In an official statement shared shortly after the incident, Asake confirmed the tragic news and offered his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, Karen Lojore.
“I am devastated by the tragic incident that took place at the festival on Dec 20 in Nairobi. My heart goes out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Karen Lojore,” the singer said.
He explained that the event affected him deeply, adding that his music has always been a source of joy and connection.
“Music has always been my way of sharing love and joy. It breaks my heart that anyone had to experience such loss,” Asake added, noting that his thoughts were with everyone mourning the tragedy.
The singer concluded with a prayer for the departed and the nation: “I pray that Karen rests in peace. God bless Kenya.”
Asake also vowed to assist in uncovering what happened during the concert and emphasized the need for accountability.
“I pledge to support and do my best to understand what happened. Those responsible should be held accountable,” he said.
Preliminary accounts indicate that Karen Lojore was caught in a crush near the entrance as crowds surged to access the venue. She was immediately taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
