Misinformation! Wiper dismisses claims Kalonzo met Ruto

The Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) has dismissed reports circulating on social media and in sections of the mainstream media alleging that party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka recently held a meeting with President William Ruto, describing the claims as false and part of a deliberate misinformation campaign.

Addressing journalists on Thursday, Senator Enock Wambua insisted there had been no meeting between the two leaders and no discussions regarding any political cooperation or alliance.

"For the record, my party leader has not had any such meeting with the President," Wambua said.

"Let me also clarify for the benefit of the country that the two have not had any talks whatsoever about working together in the next General Election."

His remarks come after reports circulating on social media and in sections of the mainstream media claimed Kalonzo had secretly met President Ruto, fuelling speculation about possible political realignments.

Wambua urged Kenyans to disregard the reports, describing them as fabricated.

"The information out there about the two must be treated with the impunity that it deserves. It is fake news. It is deepfake. It is misinformation. It is disinformation," he said.

According to the senator, those behind the claims are attempting to weaken the opposition by creating suspicion within the United Alternative Government coalition.

"Those peddling these rumours are working round the clock to try and destabilise the United Alternative Government. They can try as much as they want, but they will fail miserably," he added.

Seeking to dispel the claims, Wambua gave what he described as a firsthand account of Kalonzo's movements on the day the alleged meeting was said to have occurred. He said he attended a meeting with the Wiper leader and senior editors at a Nairobi hotel before accompanying him to another engagement at his residence.

"If President Ruto met a man called Kalonzo at State House or wherever, then that man was not the WPF leader," he said.

Wambua reaffirmed that Kalonzo remains committed to the opposition coalition and its plan to field a united presidential candidate against President Ruto in the August 10, 2027 General Election.

"Kalonzo remains fully committed to being at the forefront in uniting Kenyans from all walks of life and in all corners of the country to defeat President Ruto on the ballot in the next elections," he said.

He also reminded supporters that during Wiper's National Delegates Conference held on October 10, 2025, at Uhuru Park, delegates unanimously endorsed Kalonzo as the party's sole presidential candidate for the 2027 election and authorised him to engage other political leaders in building a united opposition.

Addressing a video circulating online and cited as evidence of the alleged meeting, Wambua said it had been taken out of context.

He explained that the footage was recorded on March 4, 2024, when Kalonzo, in his capacity as co-chair of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO), joined other committee members in presenting the committee's report to President Ruto.

Wambua concluded by assuring Wiper supporters and opposition partners that there had been no political deal between Kalonzo and the President, while urging Kenyans to verify information before sharing it.
