Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has carried out a sweeping leadership reshuffle, removing several senior politicians from key positions in both its Coalition Council and National Executive Council.
The move comes after some leaders accepted public office or aligned themselves with rival political formations, prompting decisive action from the coalition.
In a statement on Monday, Kalonzo Musyoka, the coalition leader, confirmed that Mining CS Hassan Joho, Nominated MP Sabina Chege, Abdi Noor Omar Farah, and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed have ceased to be members of the Azimio Coalition Council. Additionally, Cooperatives CS Wycliffe Oparanya, MPs Adan Keynan (Eldas), David Pkosing (Pokot South), Mishi Mboko (Likoni), Abdul Haji, Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi, Isabella Wangechi Githinji, Caroline Wanjiru Karugu, and Solomon Kuria were removed from the National Coalition Executive Council.
The coalition indicated that replacements for the outgoing leaders will be announced later as part of a wider restructuring of its leadership.
Among the immediate changes, Junet Mohamed was also removed as leader of the Azimio Parliamentary Group in the National Assembly. Caroli Omondi of Suba was appointed to replace him with immediate effect.
Kalonzo said the reshuffle was necessary in response to recent political developments, including appointments to government positions and shifting alignments with other political coalitions.
“These changes are part of a deliberate effort to reposition and revitalise the coalition,” the statement read. “The goal is to foster greater cohesion, effectiveness and unity as the coalition advances its agenda for the nation.”
The shake-up follows a prior reorganisation announced on February 3, which aimed to sharpen Azimio’s political strategy and strengthen its leadership structure.
During a joint session of the Coalition Council and National Executive Committee chaired by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta on February 2, 2026, key appointments were approved, including the naming of Kalonzo as Party Leader, Caroli Omondi as Secretary General, and former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia as Executive Director.
The coalition described the restructuring as a strategic response to evolving political circumstances, emphasizing the need for prompt and cohesive leadership to guide its operations and long-term strategy.
