Ruto names new heads for three key state boards

Three state boards have new or renewed leadership after President William Ruto made fresh appointments that will see Lynette Njeru take charge of the Railway Development Levy Fund Board, while Joseah Kiplangat Cheruiyot retains his position at the Kenya Medical Training College and Dr Martin Koyabe takes over as chair of the National Cybersecurity Agency board.

The appointments were made for three-year terms and became effective on August 21, according to a gazette notice issued by the President on Friday.

Njeru was appointed Non-Executive Chairperson of the Railway Development Levy Fund Board under the Miscellaneous Fees and Levies (Amendment) Act.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 8 (4C) (a) of the Miscellaneous Fees and Levies (Amendment) Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Lynette Njeru to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Railway Development Levy Fund Board,” the notice read in part.

She will lead the board tasked with handling matters linked to the Railway Development Levy Fund, which supports the development of railway infrastructure in the country.

Cheruiyot retains KMTC position

At the Kenya Medical Training College, Ruto renewed Cheruiyot’s appointment as Chairperson of the Board of Management for another three years.

The fresh term began on August 21.

Cheruiyot welcomed the decision and expressed his appreciation to Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration for giving him another term at the institution.

“I sincerely thank H.E. President William Samoei Ruto and the entire Kenya Kwanza Government for the confidence, trust and honour bestowed upon me through my reappointment as Chairman of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Board,” Cheruiyot said.

He committed to continuing his work with the board, management, employees and students to strengthen KMTC and support quality medical training.

“I pledge to continue working with the Board, Management, staff and students of KMTC to strengthen the institution, uphold excellence in medical training, and contribute to the development of a competent and dedicated healthcare workforce for our country,” he added.

Koyabe gets cybersecurity role

Ruto also appointed Dr Martin Koyabe as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Cybersecurity Agency.

Koyabe’s appointment will run for three years and also took effect on August 21.

The appointments have been announced with less than a year remaining before the 2027 General Election.

Public officers who intend to seek elective positions in the election are required to leave their positions by February 10, 2027, according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
