Former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has announced that she is leaving the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), bringing her time in President William Ruto's ruling party to an end with immediate effect.
Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, July 30, Jumwa said the decision followed a long period of personal reflection, prayer and consultations with the people she represents. She described it as one of the toughest choices she has made in her political career.
The former Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage Cabinet Secretary said she had carefully weighed her options before deciding to cut ties with the party, adding that the move takes effect immediately.
"After deep reflection, heartfelt prayer and countless consultations with the people I serve, I have made one of the most difficult decisions of my political life," Jumwa stated.
"From today, Aisha Jumwa Katana is no longer a member of the United Democratic Alliance," she added.
Jumwa's announcement ends her association with the ruling party, where she previously served in President Ruto's Cabinet as the Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage.
Her departure is now expected to spark interest over her next political step and the direction she intends to take after leaving UDA.
