Homa Bay County's Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga has hit back after Governor Gladys Wanga reshuffled her committee posts, a move that stripped him of his additional role as County Executive Committee (CEC) member for Agriculture as part of wider changes in her administration.
In a strongly worded statement issued on December 1, 2025, Magwanga alleges that his staff has been locked out of accessing the office, saying the act remains unethical and illegal.
Magwanga said the barricading of public offices amounted to impunity and an abuse of power. noting that staff could not access their workstations
‘’It has come to my urgent attention that my office, alongside the County Secretary and Payroll Management offices, has been unlawfully locked, barring staff from performing their duties. This act is not only unethical and illegal but an alarming display of blatant impunity and abuse of power.’’
Magwanga has further condemned the action, terming it a misuse of office.
‘’I condemn this shameful and retrogressive assault on public administration in the strongest possible terms. Locking up government offices over political disagreements is an intolerable attack on our democratic institutions and the rule of law,’’ Magwanga said.
Magwanga has formally called on Governor Wanga to reverse what he alleges are unlawful directives
‘’I call upon H.E. Governor Gladys Wanga to rein in those involved to immediately reverse these unlawful closures, restore access to all locked offices, and recommit to serving the people with honor and fairness,’’ Magwanga remarked.
Recently, Wanga and Magwanga have had different political stands, which were openly witnessed during the Kasipul by-elections, where Wanga supported the ODM candidate Boyd Were, while his deputy rallied behind independent candidate Philip Aroko.
He has urged the governor to uphold the integrity of the office and shun political stands.
‘’The act of imprisoning public offices in political standoffs strips our government of integrity, stalls essential services, and threatens the democratic principles that are the foundation of our county,’’ he said.
