Kenya’s third contingent of 208 police officers returned from Haiti yesterday,March 24,2026, after completing their deployment under the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission.
The officers, who played a key role in supporting the Haitian National Police in curbing gang violence and securing vital infrastructure, were warmly received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by top security officials, including National Security Adviser Monicah Juma and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.
Their return comes a week after another group of 215 officers returned back to the country after completing their deployment in Haiti under a United Nations-backed security initiative.
During their deployment, the officers contributed significantly to public safety in Haiti, securing airports, seaports, road networks, and major transport corridors to ensure the safe movement of civilians and the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
They also supported institutional rebuilding efforts, including strengthening the Haiti National Police Academy—which is now training its third cohort—and aiding the re-establishment of the Armed Forces College.
Speaking at the reception, National Security Adviser Monicah Juma commended the officers for their integrity and commitment, noting that their service had brought pride to both the National Police Service and Kenya as a nation.
She encouraged them to share lessons learned to enhance future operations, both domestically and internationally.
Inspector General Kanja also praised the contingent for their valour and assured them of ongoing welfare support, including mental health and counselling services as part of the post-mission debrief process.
The initial deployment began on June 25, 2024, when about 400 officers arrived in Port-au-Prince as part of the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission.
The return ceremony was attended by other senior security officials, including Masoud Mwinyi, Ranson Lolmodoni, Davis Lomwatu, Isaac Alimaa, and Bernard Mbatha.
The successful mission highlights Kenya’s commitment to international peacekeeping and the high standards of professionalism maintained by its police officers abroad.
