Gospel singer Ringtone has once again found himself linked to allegations of land fraud, a controversy that has followed him in previous instances.
This week, a Nairobi court issued a warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear for a scheduled hearing.
The singer is accused of working alongside Alfred Juma Ayora in an alleged scheme to swindle Teresiah Adhiambo out of a 0.47-acre parcel of land situated in Karen, Nairobi.
The disputed property is estimated to be worth around Sh50 million and is currently subject to a legal battle involving claims of adverse possession.
Ringtone's lawyers argued that his absence from court was due to illness, claiming he had been hospitalized.
They submitted medical records to back their claim, but the court questioned the authenticity of the documents and rejected them, casting doubt on the credibility of the explanation.
The presiding magistrate expressed dissatisfaction with the defense’s arguments and issued an order for Ringtone’s immediate arrest to ensure his future appearances in court.
The case is set to be mentioned again on May 7, 2025, when Ringtone will be required to respond to the charges.
Ringtone has been a subject of controversy for several years. In 2016, he was accused of attempting to defraud a family in Runda of their house and land.
Reports suggested that he had forcibly confronted the family over a property that was allegedly illegally allocated to him.
However, he later denied the accusations, attributing them to envy from individuals seeking to damage his reputation.
