KCB wins silver in CAVB Women’s Championship

The 2025 Kenya Cup winners and three-time Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) National League champions since 2008 showed clear intent to secure a third continental title, having previously won in 2006 and 2022—by taking the first set 25-22 amid a packed and noisy home crowd.

Two-time African women’s club champions Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) on Thursday evening fell 3-1 to home side Al Ahly Sporting Club to settle for silver at the just concluded African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship held at the Al Ahly Sports Complex in Cairo, Egypt.

The 2025 Kenya Cup winners and three-time Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) National League champions since 2008 showed clear intent to secure a third continental title, having previously won in 2006 and 2022—by taking the first set 25-22 amid a packed and noisy home crowd.

However, the Japheth Munala-coached side lost momentum in the second set (25-15), fought hard but fell short in the third (25-20), and eventually lost steam in the fourth (25-16), handing the hosts a 3-1 victory.

The Egyptian giants now boast a record 11 African titles, a feat bolstered by strong home support and solid sporting infrastructure.

Despite the loss, KCB returns home with heads held high after a commendable campaign. Meanwhile, another Kenyan side, Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), secured bronze at the same venue after defeating Tunisia’s Carthage Féminine.
