Stima Sacco has issued a warning to all members following reports of fraudulent phone calls by individuals claiming to represent the Sacco.
Members are being falsely told that their PINs will be changed and are asked to share confidential information. The Sacco urges members not to disclose PINs, passwords, OTPs, or banking credentials and to report suspicious activity immediately.
According to Stima Sacco, in the reported incidents on Thursday, callers alleged that the Sacco was conducting a campaign to change member PINs from six digits to four digits.
The callers then requested personal and confidential information from members. The Sacco has categorically denied these claims, emphasizing that no such campaign exists.
The institution warned that at no time will the Sacco or its staff request members to disclose their PIN numbers, passwords, One-Time Passwords (OTPs), or internet and mobile banking login credentials.
Members who receive such requests are advised to treat them as fraudulent and immediately decline to share any personal or banking information.
Stima Sacco encouraged members to remain vigilant and take the following actions when confronted with suspicious calls, messages, or emails-do not share any personal or banking information, end the call immediately, and report the incident to the Sacco through official communication channels.
The Sacco reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding member information and highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen its systems against fraud and cyber threats.
Officials said protecting members’ financial data remains a top priority, and the Sacco continuously monitors emerging risks to prevent scams from affecting its clients.
This alert comes amid growing concerns over financial fraud in Kenya, where individuals increasingly exploit digital channels to target banking customers.
Experts note that fraudsters often use fear, urgency, or false claims of system changes to manipulate members into divulging sensitive information.
Members are reminded that legitimate institutions, including Stima Sacco, follow strict protocols when requesting any account-related information and do not ask for PINs, passwords, or OTPs over the phone.
Any deviation from standard procedures should be treated with suspicion.
Stima Sacco also reassured members that reporting suspected fraud helps the institution respond swiftly, investigate the incidents, and protect other members from potential harm.
By notifying the Sacco promptly, members play a critical role in strengthening overall security measures and reducing the likelihood of successful scams.
The Sacco’s corporate communications team emphasized that vigilance and cooperation from members are essential to maintaining a secure banking environment.
The Sacco continues to invest in advanced systems and staff training to detect, prevent, and respond to fraud attempts efficiently.
Members are encouraged to remain alert to phishing attempts, suspicious calls, and other fraudulent activities.
The Sacco stressed that no official staff member will request sensitive information outside secure channels and that members should only respond to verified communication from the Sacco.
In conclusion, Stima Sacco reiterated that safeguarding member information is a shared responsibility between the institution and its members.
Following recommended precautions, reporting suspicious activity, and refusing to disclose personal credentials will help protect members from falling victim to scams.
The Sacco thanked members for their vigilance and cooperation in ensuring the continued security of their accounts and financial data.
