The Kenya Cup regular season 2025/2026 ended on Saturday with top dogs Kabras Sugar, Kenya Commercial Bank ( KCB) and Menengai Oilers ending their match week 11 on a high, as the sugar millers now seeks a fourth consecutive title in a row, while KCB is trying to reclaim a lost glory, chasing a ninth overall title that they last won in 2021.
Kabras RFC clashed with Menengai Oilers in the Rai derby at home in Kakamega Show Grounds on Saturday, winning the tie 27-13 to stretch their lead to 52 points on the log, while Oilers are now third with 45 points.
In their eighth consecutive season, Kabras have finished unbeaten, with this season winning ten and drawing the other one against KCB, a cruncher that had to be taken to the disputes, only for the committee to rule a 10-10 draw instead of a replay.
Kabras have now dominated and beaten Oilers ten times in a row since the Nakuru-based side was promoted to the top tier, with Saturday's match marking a milestone for head coach Carlos Katywa, who was overseeing his 50th Kenya Cup match since taking over from Jerome Muller, remaining unbeaten in the competition as head coach
Their close rivals KCB on the other hand thrashed varsity side Daystar 57-17, to finish their 2025/ 2026 Kenya Cup season with 50 points, meaning that Kabras Sugar and KCB Rugby have secured home semi-finals once again this season, but if the table leaders Kabras makes it to the finals, It will be played at Kakamega Showgrounds, an advantage to Carlos Katywa's men, an outcry to Andrew Amonde.
Kisumu RFC have sadly been relegated, despite picking up only their second win of the season when they edged Blak Blad RFC 9–8 at the Kisumu Polytechnic Grounds, results not enough to save them.
The postponed fixtures involving MMUST and Impala will determine which side joins them, with Impala needing just a single point to confirm survival.
Nakuru RFC moved into the playoff positions, beating MMUST RFC 25–19 at the MMUST Grounds to secure their top-tier status for another season, but they will have to wait for the outcome of the rescheduled clash between Nondescripts RFC and MMUST to determine whether they remain inside the top six or drop out of the playoff places.
That fixture is equally crucial for MMUST, who must collect maximum points (5) in the encounter while also hoping Impala RFC fail to pick up any points in their final match against Blak Blad RFC on March 28 to survive relegation.
