Nairobi Masters Swimming Championship attracts over 300 participants

Speaking after the event, Omar Omari, Technical Director at Kenya Aquatics, praised the championship, noting that it brought together more than 300 Masters athletes aged 25 and above. The oldest participant at the meet was Esther Kariuki, 75, from United Swimming Club, proving that age is just a number.

The Nairobi County Swimming Association (NCSA) held a one-day Masters Swimming Championship that attracted over 300 swimmers from 35 clubs across the country on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Consolata School, Westlands in Nairobi.

“Masters swimming in Kenya has grown tremendously, with more adults embracing it as a healthy lifestyle and a lifelong sport. Events like this also provide an opportunity to interact, network, and have fun,” said Omari.

“I want to thank the Nairobi County Swimming Association for organising such a high-standard meet, and I encourage other counties and clubs to benchmark against it,” he added. He also invited Masters swimmers from across the country to the Kenya Aquatics National Masters Swimming Championship scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Bandari Maritime Academy in Mombasa.

The event also featured a para-swimming category, where Josephine Napolo from Kitengela, an amputee, participated and won several medals.

Participants are now looking forward to upcoming events later this year, including the 2nd Africa Aquatics Masters Swimming Championships and the 11th Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Masters Swimming Championship in Kampala, among others.
