Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has unveiled a new leadership team, appointing former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau as chairperson, Nyali MP Mohamed Ali as deputy party leader and constitutional lawyer Ndegwa Njiru as the party’s first spokesperson.
The changes, announced at Wiper Headquarters in Nairobi on Friday, form part of a plan to strengthen the Wiper Patriotic Front, expand its leadership and prepare the party for the 2027 General Election.
Kalonzo said the appointments would help improve the party’s organisation while supporting efforts to bring opposition parties together to build a united political force capable of forming the next government.
Kalonzo described Kamau as an experienced political and administrative leader who would bring discipline to the party as it enters a new political phase.
“Honorable Kamau has spent 30 years building coalitions, balancing budgets, and holding fractious political houses together under pressure. That is precisely the discipline the Wiper Patriotic Front needs as we assemble the united alternative government in waiting, a coalition wide enough to defeat this regime and disciplined enough to govern after it.”
The Wiper leader also picked Mohamed Ali as his deputy, pointing to the Nyali MP’s background in investigative journalism and his record in Parliament and community service.
Ali previously worked as an investigative journalist before joining elective politics, a background Kalonzo said had shaped his approach to public service and accountability.
“Long before he sat in Parliament, Mohamed Ali sat behind a camera as chief investigations editor. He did what few dared. He exposed corruption at the highest levels, conducted undercover operations, and gave whistleblowers a platform when the system wanted them silenced. That instinct to expose rather than conceal, to serve rather than to extract, has not left him up to today.”
The party has also created the office of spokesperson, with lawyer Ndegwa Njiru becoming the first person to hold the position.
Kalonzo said Njiru’s legal background and involvement in defending constitutional rights made him suited to take up the new role as Wiper seeks to strengthen its public communication.
“Ndegwa Njiru becomes the party’s first spokesperson, a new office created for a new season of struggle. He is a constitutional advocate of the High Court, admitted to the Bar in 2011, and has spent his career standing between ordinary citizens and the arbitrary exercise of power,”
Kalonzo said the leadership changes were only part of a wider effort to renew the Wiper Patriotic Front and strengthen its engagement with other opposition parties.
He said the party would continue working beyond its own structures as it seeks to build a broader political alliance ahead of the 2027 election.
