The operation, described by authorities as intelligence-led, marks a significant step in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and organized crime along the coast.

Two suspects, Salim Mafuko Hamisi and Ali Musa Mwachumwadi, have been arrested in Ukunda Township, Kwale County by a joint team of security agencies from Kenya’s coastal region, who also seized suspected narcotics and stolen property worth approximately Sh2.05 million.

The operation, described by authorities as intelligence-led, marks a significant step in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and organized crime along the coast.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects, aged 32 and 38 respectively, were found in possession of around 250 grams of suspected cocaine, estimated at Sh1 million, and a half-full sack containing approximately 35 kilograms of suspected cannabis, valued at about Sh1,050,000.

In addition, several mobile phones believed to be stolen property were recovered during the operation.

Preliminary investigations have linked the two suspects to a criminal gang operating across the coastal region, highlighting the networked nature of drug and property-related crime in the area.

“The suspects are currently in lawful custody pending arraignment, while all recovered exhibits have been secured for forensic analysis,” DCI said in a statement.

Security agencies have intensified efforts to dismantle the broader criminal network connected to the suspects, with additional targets already under investigation.

The Directorate emphasized that operations such as this are part of a broader strategy to disrupt drug trafficking, safeguard communities, and ensure that perpetrators of crime are held accountable.

“This arrest underscores our commitment to protecting communities across the nation and dismantling criminal networks that threaten public safety,” the DCI added.

The Ukunda operation comes amid heightened vigilance along Kenya’s coast, where security agencies continue to implement intelligence-led interventions aimed at curbing narcotics circulation and organized crime.

Authorities have reassured the public that ongoing investigations will target all individuals linked to these criminal networks, ensuring that justice is delivered and that drug and property-related offenses are thoroughly prosecuted.
