An outpouring of grief has swept across the country following the tragic death of Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno, who perished in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County, alongside five others.
Political leaders from across the divide have described his passing as shocking and painful, remembering him as a fearless and outspoken defender of his constituents.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki described Ng’eno as “a fearless man, courageous leader and a committed member of our party." He said the late Ngeno loved Kenya and deeply cherished his heritage.
"It is incredibly difficult to come to terms with this sudden loss of a great son of our nation. May his memory last forever, and his soul find peace in eternity," he said.
Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula described Ng’eno as “a fierce leader” and a “dedicated public servant.”
“Ng’eno was a fierce leader who strongly defended the people he represented. He was also a dedicated public servant whose commitment to service and development was exemplary. To the family, no words can ease your pain; please know that the entire country stands with you during this unimaginably difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he said.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi said Ng'eno will be remembered as a humble leader and a seasoned politician who represented his constituents with zeal and commitment, resulting in his repeated election to Parliament, with this term being his third stint.
“On behalf of the Senate and on my own behalf, I convey heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and constituents and pray that God grants them fortitude at this very difficult time,” he said.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua spoke of their long friendship, recalling the bond they shared over the years.
He said Ng’eno "was my very great friend who faced threats and intimidation. We remained the best of friends up to his death. He had a great future as the leader of the Kipsigis community and his death has robbed the community of a great leader."
Gachagua also called for thorough and speedy investigations into the cause of the crash that must be made public.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said he had known Ng’eno since they first entered Parliament together in 2013. He described him as a devoted public servant who represented his people with courage and conviction.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri also joined other leaders in mourning.
