The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast sunny intervals across most parts of the country through Monday, April 6, 2026, with rainfall expected in the Highlands and parts of North-Eastern Kenya.
The department also warned of showers and thunderstorms in several regions, including Nairobi and the Lake Victoria Basin, mainly in the afternoon and evening.
In its daily weather outlook issued on April 5 at 3:00 p.m., the department indicated that the forecast will be valid “from 9.00 pm tonight to 9.00 pm tomorrow, 6th April 2026.”
According to the statement, “Sunny intervals are expected across most parts of the country. However, rainfall is expected over the Highlands West and East of the Great Rift Valley and in parts of the North-Eastern region.”
Residents in counties within the Lake Victoria Basin and Rift Valley regions, including Kisumu, Kakamega, Nakuru, and Narok, should expect morning sunshine and a return of afternoon rains.
Similar conditions are expected in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, where “sunny intervals with light rains” will likely occur today in the morning before thunderstorms develop later in the day.
The North-Western and North-Eastern regions will also experience mixed weather patterns, with intermittent rains and sunshine.
The department further cautioned that “strong southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s)” are expected over parts of Turkana and Marsabit counties, which could impact local activities.
In the South-Eastern lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, and Kajiado, the forecast points to scattered showers tonight and in the morning, followed by largely sunny conditions in the afternoon.
Coastal counties such as Mombasa, Kilifi, and Lamu are expected to experience partly cloudy conditions with occasional light showers, particularly in Tana River.
Temperature forecasts show generally warm conditions across the country, with maximum temperatures reaching up to 37°C in Garissa and Mandera, while cooler conditions of around 23°C are expected in highland areas such as Eldoret and Nyeri.
The department has advised the public to stay updated on weather changes and plan activities accordingly, especially in regions likely to experience thunderstorms and strong winds during the forecast period.
