The Gatimus: Mother and daughter unveil new machine ahead of WRC Safari Rally

Gatimu, who previously competed using a Subaru Impreza GC8, will take on the iconic rally with her mother Caroline Gatimu as her navigator, forming a rare and inspiring mother-daughter crew in the highly competitive global motorsport event.

Rally driver Tinashe Gatimu and her mother, co-driver Caroline Gatimu, on Thursday evening in Nairobi unveiled a brand-new Ford Fiesta R2 ahead of the 2026 Safari Rally Kenya set for March 12–15 in Naivasha.

Gatimu, who previously competed using a Subaru Impreza GC8, will take on the iconic rally with her mother Caroline Gatimu as her navigator, forming a rare and inspiring mother-daughter crew in the highly competitive global motorsport event.

“This is a special moment for me. Driving the Ford Fiesta R2 in the Safari Rally Kenya with my mum as my navigator is something I deeply cherish. Rallying has always been part of our family journey, and carrying the FLME banner motivates me to push harder and inspire more young women to believe they belong in motorsport,” said Tinashe Gatimu.

The Gatimus are supported by Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) as part of the bank’s Female-Led and Made Enterprises (FLME) initiative aimed at empowering women in business and sports, as explained by the bank’s Group Director of Marketing and Communications, Rosalind Gichuru.

“Through the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally, we have deliberately chosen this powerful mother-daughter duo to carry the Female-Led and Made Enterprises (FLME) banner as our ambassadors. In Tinashe Gatimu and her mother, we see legacy, mentorship, and the generational transfer of courage — an embodiment of what we stand for as KCB,” said Gichuru.

The WRC Safari Rally’s presence in Kenya strengthens KCB’s growing footprint in motorsport through the bank’s Racing Team, where Gatimu lines up alongside fellow drivers Queen Kalimpinya, Nikhil Sachania, Karan Patel, and Oscar Ntambi.
