The Kenya Vision 2030 Secretariat has called on Kenyans and public institutions to reaffirm their commitment to the National Values and Principles of Governance, saying they are fundamental to delivering the country's long-term development aspirations.
Taking to its X account on Monday, the Secretariat said achieving Kenya Vision 2030 requires more than infrastructure expansion and economic growth, stressing that constitutional values such as integrity, accountability, inclusivity, the rule of law, and national unity must guide leadership, policymaking, and public service delivery to ensure transparent, people-centred, and sustainable development.
"Kenya Vision 2030 seeks to transform Kenya into a globally competitive and prosperous upper-middle-income country that provides a high quality of life to all its citizens in a clean and secure environment. Achieving this vision goes beyond infrastructure development and economic growth; it requires a steadfast commitment to the National Values and Principles of Governance that promote good governance, national unity, integrity, accountability, equity, inclusivity, and sustainable development," said the Secretariat.
Kenya Vision 2030 is the country's long-term national development blueprint launched by former President Mwai Kibaki on June 10, 2008, to guide economic, social, and political transformation.
The strategy aims to transform Kenya into a globally competitive and prosperous upper-middle-income country offering a high quality of life to all citizens in a clean and secure environment by 2030.
It is implemented through successive five-year Medium-Term Plans, which prioritise investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, manufacturing, governance, technology, and other sectors to drive inclusive and sustainable development.
The Secretariat noted that the National Values and Principles of Governance are anchored in Article 10 of the Constitution and are binding on all state organs, state officers, public officers, and every person whenever the Constitution is applied or interpreted, laws are enacted or implemented, or public policy decisions are made.
It said adherence to these principles is essential in ensuring that governance and development remain transparent, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of citizens.
"Enshrined in Article 10 of the Constitution of Kenya, these values guide policy formulation, public service delivery and stakeholder engagement, ensuring that development is transparent, participatory, people-centred and responsive to the needs and aspirations of all Kenyans," the Secretariat added.
According to the statement, the constitutional principles include patriotism, national unity, the sharing and devolution of power, the rule of law, democracy and public participation, human dignity, equity, social justice, inclusiveness, equality, human rights, non-discrimination, protection of marginalised groups, good governance, integrity, transparency, accountability, and sustainable development.
The Secretariat said these values provide the foundation for effective governance and should guide decision-making across public institutions and communities.
It further argued that embedding the principles in workplaces, institutions, and everyday interactions would strengthen public confidence while supporting the country's transformation agenda.
"By upholding these values in our institutions, workplaces and communities, we foster responsible leadership, strengthen public trust and accelerate the realization of Kenya Vision 2030, creating a more prosperous, inclusive and sustainable future for present and future generations."
The Secretariat also urged Kenyans to embrace the constitutional principles as the cornerstone of the country's social, economic and political transformation.
"We must fully embrace and remain steadfast in upholding our national values and principles of governance, as they form the cornerstone of the social, economic and political transformation required to realize the objectives of Kenya's Vision 2030."
The renewed call comes as Kenya continues implementing programmes under Vision 2030, the country's long-term development blueprint aimed at transforming Kenya into a globally competitive and prosperous upper middle-income economy while improving the quality of life for all citizens.
