President William Ruto has used his tour of Taita Taveta County to reaffirm his focus on development projects, saying his government is committed to transforming livelihoods through infrastructure while pushing back against criticism over his leadership style.
He linked the ongoing projects to his broader message of unity and national cohesion, urging political leaders to shift attention from confrontation to service delivery.
He stressed that leaders should avoid political narratives built on division, ethnic influence, and insults, arguing that such approaches only slow down national progress. Instead, he said the country needs a shared direction anchored on inclusion and development.
“Anyone propagating evil vices does not deserve any leadership position. We no longer want politics of exclusion and division. We want a government that unites all Kenyans. That is why I formed the broad-based government and included even those we opposed during the elections, because unity is strength,” he said on Friday.
The President further encouraged leaders to present their plans to Kenyans in a clear and respectful manner, saying political competition should be based on ideas rather than attacks and hostility. He maintained that unity remains a key pillar in his administration’s agenda.
“Tell Kenyans your agenda and plans instead of name-calling, abuse, ethnicism, discrimination, and hatred. We want one Kenya because unity is strength. It was not by accident or default that we created the BBG so that we can bring all Kenyans together, because in unity we can succeed,” said President Ruto as he urged residents to support his 2027 bid for re-election.
At the same time, Ruto said his government is prioritising key infrastructure works aimed at strengthening transport networks and supporting economic activities across different regions. He noted that such projects are meant to ensure long-term growth and improved access to services.
“We remain focused on delivering tangible projects that uplift the lives of our people. I inspected the ongoing construction of the 55km Mto Mwagodi-Dawida-Mbale-Wundanyi-Bura Junction Road in Mwatate Constituency,” said Dr Ruto.
He also pointed to progress on the Illasit-Rombo-Njukini-Taveta road, which links Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties, noting that 20 kilometres out of the 60-kilometre stretch has already been completed. He added that funding has been secured for the Mtomwagodi–Msau–Dawida–Mbale–Wundanyi–Bura road, which is part of the ongoing infrastructure programme in the region.
