The National Police Service has announced that it will conduct a nationwide recruitment of police constables on November 17, 2025, in a move aimed at expanding the force and improving service delivery across the country.
According to a notice from Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, the recruitment will be held simultaneously in all counties across 422 designated centres, with all applicants expected to report to their respective venues by 8:00 a.m.
The Inspector General explained that senior police officers and officials from other relevant government agencies will supervise the exercise to ensure fairness and transparency in the selection process. He also stressed that the recruitment will be free and open to all qualified Kenyans who meet the set standards.
“The recruitment process will be free and open to all qualified Kenyans who meet the minimum entry requirements,” the notice stated.
The recruitment drive comes at a time when the High Court ruled that the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) does not have authority to recruit, train, employ, assign, promote, suspend, or dismiss members of the service. The court clarified that such powers rest entirely under the command of the Inspector General as outlined in Article 245 of the Constitution.
In the statement, Kanja outlined the eligibility criteria for those seeking to join the service. Applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years and in possession of a valid national identity card. They are also required to have scored a minimum grade of D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), including at least a D+ in English or Kiswahili.
Candidates are further required to be physically and medically fit, with men expected to be at least 5 feet 8 inches tall and women 5 feet 3 inches.
The Inspector General urged interested applicants to prepare early and attend the recruitment in their respective counties, reminding them that no payments should be made to anyone claiming to influence the process.
The upcoming exercise is part of broader efforts by the National Police Service to enhance the country’s policing capacity and improve response to security needs at the community level.
