Kenya has officially flagged off its inaugural consignment of apple mangoes to the United Kingdom, marking a transformative milestone in the nation’s fresh produce export sector.

Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA) Chief Executive Officer, Floice Mukabana, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering apple mango farmers to penetrate global markets.

In a statement by the agency on December 20, 2025, the initiative aligns with Kenya’s strategic focus on promoting value addition, enhancing product competitiveness, and expanding commercial opportunities for local producers.

Mukabana noted that this pilot consignment paves the way for sustained export growth. She emphasized the critical importance of collaboration among farmers and stakeholders to standardize the commodity, ensuring strict compliance with international quality and phytosanitary standards.

Also present was TradeMark Africa Country Director, Lilian Mwai, who highlighted the significance of the UK market in creating jobs and increasing incomes across the mango value chain.

Kenya Airways Acting CEO, Captain George Kamal, further assured exporters of the national carrier’s support, providing reliable and efficient air cargo services to bolster the global reach of Kenya's exports.

This flag-off signals Kenya’s expanding footprint in international markets and reflects a robust synergy between government agencies, development partners, and the private sector to drive agricultural exports.

In Kenya, the Apple Mango is a beloved and widely cultivated variety, recognized for its unique taste, high quality, and export value.

This mango variety has since become a staple in many regions, especially in areas like Makueni, Kitui, and Embu, where the climate is ideal for mango cultivation.

The apple mango’s popularity stems from its sweet, tangy flavor, smooth, fiberless flesh, and attractive red-yellow skin, which appeals to both local consumers and international markets.

The mango season in Kenya typically peaks between November and April, with Apple Mangos being a major contributor to the mango market during these months.
