Detectives in Mtito Andei, Makueni County, have arrested three suspects accused of extorting money from bar owners and members of the public.
The trio was reportedly moving like “predators” from one establishment to another while committing the crimes.
“The trio was reported to be cruising through the township in a white Toyota Axio, flashing confidence and fear in equal measure, as they extorted bar owners their hard-earned cash,” read a report by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on February 7, 2026.
Detectives swooped in and arrested the suspects, identified as Samuel Ogando Odoyo, a member of the Kenya Defence Forces; Onyango Nelson Kasera, a police officer; and Joseph Mulwa Mwambi, a civilian.
Further scrutiny by authorities revealed the level of deception. The vehicle they were using bore a fake registration number, KDB 648W, while its true identity was established as KDD 574W.
A search of the car uncovered a black pistol holster, a pair of handcuffs, and other items.
The suspects were immediately taken into custody and later subjected to an identification parade, where victims positively identified them.
They are now being processed as detectives prepare to present them in court.
Elsewhere in Nairobi, officers at Dandora Police Station have seized a Desert Eagle .50 AE magnum pistol suspected to have been used in the commission of a crime.
Acting on intelligence, the team conducted a targeted raid in Dandora Phase 5, where a gang was allegedly plotting to attack members of the public in the Katoo area.
As officers moved in, the suspects fled, but one of them dropped a jacket.
“Inside that jacket, officers found an Israeli-made Desert Eagle 50 AE magnum pistol tucked away in one of the jacket’s pockets, waiting to be unleashed,” the DCI said.
The pistol has since been sent to the National Forensic Laboratory for ballistics analysis as police continue the hunt for the suspects.
