Speaking during the New Year Diplomatic Briefing at State House, Nairobi, the President emphasized Kenya’s commitment to offering dialogue venues, humanitarian corridors, and coordination with regional and international partners to address the situation.

President William Ruto has called for inclusive, civilian-led solutions to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, stressing that there is no military resolution to the crisis.

Speaking during the New Year Diplomatic Briefing at State House, Nairobi, the President emphasized Kenya’s commitment to offering dialogue venues, humanitarian corridors, and coordination with regional and international partners to address the situation.

“It is still Kenya’s concern that the situation in Sudan is grave. It is very serious, and global attention must be focused because what is going on in Sudan is completely inhuman,” Ruto said on Monday.

The President highlighted Kenya’s proactive role in facilitating peace, noting that the country has already provided logistical support and humanitarian assistance.

“We will play our role. We have offered a place for dialogue here in Nairobi, we have offered corridors of humanitarian support where it is needed, and we have served Sudan in the past from Lokichogio airport here in Turkana,” he stated.

Ruto reiterated that sustained international cooperation is crucial to prevent further suffering and achieve a lasting, peaceful resolution.

Beyond Sudan, the President underscored Kenya’s commitment to supporting peace and stability in South Sudan, Somalia, and the wider Great Lakes region.

He spoke of ongoing engagements with regional leaders and international partners to ensure commitments under peace agreements are fully honored.

“I did speak last evening with President Salva Kiir, and hopefully we will be able to have a meeting later this week or early next week… We look forward to working with the Troika and all other partners involved in South Sudan,” Ruto said.

The briefing also touched on Kenya’s broader international engagements, including advancing bilateral relations and regional cooperation.

The President highlighted Kenya’s leadership in the African Union, the East African Community, and initiatives on climate action, trade, and security.

“Kenya continues to contribute responsibly to global peace and security… We are proud to host the only United Nations headquarters in the Global South, and remain committed to providing the political, security, and infrastructural support necessary to expand the UN presence in Kenya,” he said.

Ruto further called for reform of the United Nations and emphasized the need for Africa to have permanent representation on the Security Council.

He noted that Kenya is actively supporting the operationalization of the African Court of Justice, enhancing the African Standby Force, and strengthening continental peace and governance mechanisms.

The President reinforced the principle that collaborative, inclusive, and civilian-led approaches are the only viable path to sustainable peace in Sudan and the region, urging the international community to remain engaged and committed.
