DP Kindiki apologises over conduct of leaders during Ol Kalou MP's requiem mass

Speaking on Friday during the burial ceremony in Tigoni, Kiambu County, Kindiki said what happened in Ol Kalou, where some leaders made remarks and acted in a manner that disturbed mourners, was painful to the family and those who knew the late MP.

A somber call for respect during burials has emerged after Deputy President Kithure Kindiki expressed regret over conduct by some political leaders during the funeral of the late Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho, saying the behaviour went against the dignity expected at such moments of grief.

Speaking on Friday during the burial ceremony in Tigoni, Kiambu County, Kindiki said what happened in Ol Kalou, where some leaders made remarks and acted in a manner that disturbed mourners, was painful to the family and those who knew the late MP.

He said the late legislator should be remembered with honour, describing him as a calm, disciplined and well-organised leader who worked closely with people across the board.

“I apologise on behalf of the political leaders who through their utterances, actions and behaviours put into disrepute the sending-off ceremony of Hon. Kiaraho. On their behalf, I apologise for anything that was done that might have hurt the family, his friends and the people of Ol Kalou,” DP said.

Kindiki stressed that funerals should remain moments of unity, reflection and respect, adding that the dignity of the departed must be protected at all times.

“As the people of Mt. Kenya, it is not our culture to misbehave during funerals and private events. Whether Kikuyu, Embu or Meru, it is not within us to disrespect the departed during solemn occasions,” DP stated.

He further urged leaders to exercise restraint when speaking at burial ceremonies, saying families should be allowed to grieve without political tension or disruption.

“I hope what happened in Ol Kalou will not be repeated in Mt. Kenya and everywhere in the country,” he noted.
