DCI arrests 4 in Ukunda over murder of British national

DCI officers arrested four suspects in Ukunda over the murder of British national Campbell Scott Alistair and multiple violent robberies targeting foreigners along Kenya’s Coast, recovering laptops, phones and foreign currency.

DCI detectives on Saturday arrested four suspects in Ukunda linked to the murder of British national Campbell Scott Alistair and several robbery with violence cases targeting foreign nationals.

The intelligence-led, multi-agency operation led to the recovery of stolen items including laptops, mobile phones, foreign currency, credit cards, and banking equipment.

The suspects are being held at Nyali Police Station as investigations continue into the coordinated criminal activities across the Coast region.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the operation was carried out by officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CR&IB) Headquarters, working jointly with counterparts from SCCIO Nyali and SCCIO Msambweni.

The suspects—Bernard Mbusu, Isaac Kinoti Kobia, Evans Muthengi Mutaki and Kelvin Mwangi Njoroge—were apprehended at Ideal Apartments in Ukunda.

“The operation was conducted by DCI officers drawn from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CR&IB) Headquarters, working jointly with their counterparts drawn from SCCIO Nyali and SCCIO Msambweni (Ukunda),” the statement read.

Investigators linked the arrests to a series of violent crimes, including a robbery involving an American national in Nyali and the earlier abduction and murder of Campbell Scott Alistair in February 2025.

His body was later discovered in Mukuyuni along the Machakos–Wote road.

“The arrests follow investigations into a robbery with violence incident involving an American national in Nyali and the earlier reported abduction and subsequent murder of British national Campbell Scott Alistair,” DCI noted.

Further forensic analysis has also connected the suspects to another robbery with violence incident in Watamu, Malindi Sub-County. During a search at their residence, detectives recovered key exhibits believed to have been stolen from victims.

“A search at the residence led to the recovery of stolen items, including an HP laptop, mobile phones, assorted foreign currencies, multiple credit cards, cheque books from various banks and PDQ machines,” the statement added.

The crime scene was processed by CSI personnel, and the suspects remain in custody pending further investigations.

Authorities have urged the public to report suspicious activities, assuring anonymity through established reporting channels.
