Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has secured a prominent governmental role following her dismissal from the Cabinet in July 2024.
President William Ruto appointed Nakhumicha as the Permanent Representative to UN Habitat, Nairobi, marking a significant turn in her career path.
The appointment, announced on March 20, 2025, under Executive Order No. 1 of 2025, reflects ongoing governmental reorganizations aimed at optimizing administrative functions and enhancing Kenya's global diplomatic presence.
According to a statement from Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, these changes are part of broader efforts to capitalize on emerging economic opportunities while addressing societal challenges.
In her first public remarks since the reshuffle, Nakhumicha emphasized her dedication to agricultural pursuits, particularly farming and cabbage sales in Cherangany.
Her candid remarks came during a memorial service in Kitale, where she recounted the personal and professional challenges following her Cabinet exit.
Leaders from the Western region had previously advocated for Nakhumicha's reappointment, citing her competence and experience.
During recent public ceremonies, including the burial of former IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati, politicians echoed support for her reinstatement into governmental service.
Nakhumicha's tenure as Health CS ended amid public dissatisfaction, leading to her replacement by Deborah Barasa in August 2024.
Despite the abrupt transition, Nakhumicha remains optimistic about her future contributions to Kenya's governance and economic development.
