The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed reports circulating online alleging that Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, the main suspect in the gruesome Kware murders, has been re-arrested.
This follows alleged reports that detectives from DCI Headquarters in Nairobi arrested Jumaisi last week on Friday and that he was currently in police custody.
According to the allegations, Kalusha was arrested in Launda, Vihiga County, after an altercation with fellow travellers in a matatu and was being detained at the Naivasha Police Station.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the DCI clarified that the information being shared on social media is false, confirming that Jumaisi, who escaped from Gigiri Police Station in August 2024, remains at large.
“We wish to clarify that the information about his re-arrest is false, and Collins Jumaisi remains at large,” the statement read in part.
The agency noted that the spread of inaccurate information could mislead the public and derail ongoing efforts to locate the fugitive, urging Kenyans to rely only on verified communication from official law enforcement channels.
The DCI expressed gratitude to members of the public for their continued cooperation and support in the ongoing manhunt, commending those who have shared credible leads with investigators.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the members of the public for their invaluable support and cooperation in this ongoing search for Jumaisi. Your willingness to share information and assist in the effort is greatly appreciated,” the DCI stated.
To enhance the search efforts, the agency reiterated its appeal for any information regarding Jumaisi’s whereabouts and reminded the public that a cash reward of Sh1 million remains in place for information leading to his arrest.
“The DCI continues to appeal to members of the public with information about his whereabouts to share with us through our toll-free number 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000,” the agency said.
The DCI further emphasized its unwavering commitment to ensuring that Jumaisi is apprehended and held accountable for the horrific crimes he is accused of committing.
“The DCI remains steadfast in its commitment to apprehending Collins Jumaisi and holding him accountable for the horrific crimes he has committed. This dedication aims to bring justice not only to the victims but also to their families, ensuring that they receive the closure they deserve,” the statement added.
Kalusha, the prime suspect in the murder of 42 women whose mutilated bodies were found dumped inside a quarry in Mukuru kwa Njenga, escaped jail last year.
He was among 13 people who escaped from the Gigiri Police Station after cutting through a wire mesh before scaling a perimeter wall to secure their freedom.
The escape was noticed when police officers made a routine visit to the station cells at around 5 am to serve the prisoners breakfast, only to find the suspects missing.
However, his escape led to the arrest of five police officers who were suspected of having aided in the disappearance of the 13 following reports that the alleged criminals simply walked out of the police station.
