In Summary

The cornerstone of Princess Lalla Asmaa’s humanitarian portfolio is her presidency of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation for Deaf Children and Youth, founded in 1995.

Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Asmaa of Morocco arrived in Kenya on Tuesday for a three-day official visit.

As part of her visit, Princess Lalla Asmaa is scheduled to tour Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on Wednesday, where she will assess the progress of Kenya’s Cochlear Implant Programme.

She is also expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration between Kenya and Morocco in hearing health.

During her visit, the Princess made a donation of cochlear implant devices valued at Sh120 million.

Born on September 29, 1965, Princess Lalla Asmaa is the second daughter and third child of the late King Hassan II and Princess Lalla Latifa.

She received her education at the Royal College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Mohammed V University in Rabat, providing a foundation for her public service work.

Her Royal Highness is the sister of King Mohammed VI.

Since her marriage to Khalid Bouchentouf in 1987, Princess Lalla Asmaa has maintained an active public profile, primarily centered on her extensive philanthropic work. She is also a mother of two.

She is regarded as one of Morocco’s most dedicated figures in humanitarian work, consistently channeling her efforts toward the welfare and social integration of children with hearing and speech impairments.

The cornerstone of Princess Lalla Asmaa’s humanitarian portfolio is her presidency of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation for Deaf Children and Youth, founded in 1995.

For decades, the foundation has been at the forefront of providing specialized education and essential support to children with hearing disabilities, with the goal of achieving full societal integration.

The foundation’s approach is comprehensive, offering an educational program aligned with the national curriculum. Students benefit from critical technical support, including digital hearing aids, cochlear implants, and electronic transmission systems.

Beyond primary and secondary schooling, the institution provides vocational training in fields such as embroidery, weaving, and hairdressing—helping graduates transition into professional life and financial independence.

In addition to her work with the Lalla Asmaa Foundation, the Princess serves as the Honorary President of the Society for the Protection of Animals and Nature (SPANA) in Morocco.

The Moroccan people consistently pay tribute to Princess Lalla Asmaa, recognizing her kindness, compassion, and leadership, which have left a lasting mark on social development in the Kingdom.

Her work reflects not just royal duty but a lifelong commitment to ensuring that the nation’s most vulnerable children receive the care, education, and opportunities they need to thrive as full and contributing citizens.

In July 2012, in her honor was inaugurated the “Mosque of H.R.H. Princess Lalla Asma” in Rabat. The mosque is built in the traditional architectural style of the city of Rabat.

It has door arches raised in Salé stone, the doors open onto a triptych lobed arch called Kharsna bal-Anqoud.

The prayer room of the mosque stands out for its double arcades on two levels supported by square-section pillars covered with a katyani-type zellij composition.
