In Summary

The marathon is organized in partnership with the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC) and is expected to attract runners, health advocates, and members of the public. The event aims to raise awareness and foster solidarity in the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS.

A major section of Mombasa Road will be temporarily closed this Sunday to accommodate the 2025 World AIDS Day Half Marathon, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced. The closure is aimed at ensuring the safe and smooth conduct of the 21-kilometre race, one of the flagship events marking this year’s World AIDS Day.

In a notice dated November 24, 2025, KeNHA said the affected section stretches from the Nyayo National Stadium Roundabout to the Museum Hill Interchange. The closure will be in effect from 6:00 am to 10:30 am.

“A section of Mombasa Road (A8) between Nyayo National Stadium Roundabout and Museum Hill Interchange will experience traffic disruption on Sunday November 30, 2025 from 6.00 am to 10.30 am,” the Authority stated.

The marathon is organized in partnership with the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC) and is expected to attract runners, health advocates, and members of the public. The event aims to raise awareness and foster solidarity in the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS.

KeNHA has urged motorists to plan their journeys carefully and consider alternative routes to avoid delays. The Authority also called on road users to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be stationed along the route to ensure safety for both runners and drivers.

“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” the notice added.

To assist the public, KeNHA has provided a toll-free line at 0800-211-244, a customer care number 0700 423 606, and an email channel for any inquiries or clarifications.

While the temporary road closure may cause some inconvenience, the Authority emphasized that the marathon is a national initiative that brings Kenyans together in reflection, awareness, and support for those affected by HIV/AIDS. KeNHA also reminded all road users of its ongoing safety message: “Road Safety Starts With You.”
