Education CS Julius Ogamba said 270,000 candidates qualified for direct university entry after attaining grade C+ and above. 

At least 1,932 candidates scored grade A in the 2025 KCSE examinations, according to a briefing presented to President William Ruto.

993,226 candidates sat the 2025 KCSE, says KNEC

KNEC CEO, Dr. David Njengere: A total of 993,226 candidates sat the 2025 KCSE examination in 10,765 secondary education level institutions across the country. Out of these, 492,019 were male, while 501,214 of the candidates were female.

The candidates were tested in 30 subjects, using a total of 74 papers. For ease of administration, KNEC used 633 Distribution Centres (containers) that are installed countrywide, for daily distribution of materials in the field.

KCSE candidates tested in 30 subjects

KNEC CEO: The candidates were tested in 30 subjects using a total of 24 papers with the examination administered in 24 days from October 1 to November 21. For ease of administration, KNEC used 633 distribution centers in the country for the distributions of exam papers.

Registration for 2026 national exams to open between February and March

KNEC CEO: Our biggest challenge is always registration of candidates, and we invite every parent who child is entering Grade 6, 9, and Form 4, please take an interest to know if your child has been registered. We are going to open the portal for registration between February and March 2026.
