Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja.
In Summary

The officers facing administrative action are the Sub-County Police Commander for Tinderet, the Officer Commanding Station for Songoh, the OCS for Nandi Hills, and the officers in charge of RDU Songoh Camp, GSU Songoh Camp, and ASTU Songoh Camp.

Police are taking swift action after a CCTV recording captured a suspected assault at a pool hall in Nandi Hills, prompting the Inspector General of the National Police Service (NPS), Douglas Kanja, to order immediate administrative measures against six senior officers.

The National Police Service stated that the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) conducted a thorough investigation after the video circulated online and verified that it was recorded at a Nandi Hills pool venue.

Following the findings, IG Kanja accepted the IAU recommendations and directed disciplinary proceedings against local commanders who allegedly failed to exercise proper oversight.

According to the NPS, these measures are meant to reinforce accountability among senior police personnel for all activities under their command.

The Service emphasized that misconduct by officers will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

“The Inspector General reiterates that every officer bears a solemn duty as a custodian of public safety, security, and property. This obligation must be discharged with professionalism and responsibility at all times,” the NPS statement said.

While expressing regret over the incident, the NPS extended sympathies to the victims and assured the public that unlawful actions will be addressed in line with the law. Authorities, however, did not disclose the disciplinary steps for officers seen in the footage.

The assault drew strong criticism from the public and oversight bodies.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) condemned the incident and confirmed that it dispatched a Rapid Response Investigation Team to Nandi Hills to establish the full circumstances of the case.

IPOA also reiterated that any officer found to have acted unlawfully will face consequences as per its mandate, with the investigation still ongoing.
