In Summary

Speaking during campaign stops, Farouk Kibet and Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo called on pastoralist voters to stay loyal to the ruling party by electing Tubi Mohamed Tubi.

Farouk Kibet, a key ally of President William Ruto, led political leaders aligned with the Kenya Kwanza government in vigorous campaigns for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate in Isiolo South, a seat left vacant after the passing of Mohamed Tubi Bidu last November.

After the former MP’s death, community elders agreed to back his son, Tubi Mohamed Tubi, to serve the remainder of the term on the UDA ticket.

The family contest turned contentious when Bina Tubi, his sister, later entered the race with Jubilee Party’s support, creating a rare public rivalry between siblings ahead of the February 26 polls.

Speaking during campaign stops, Farouk Kibet and Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo called on pastoralist voters to stay loyal to the ruling party by electing Tubi Mohamed Tubi, highlighting the benefits residents in the region stand to gain from supporting the government.

UDA legislators Mwengi Mutuse (Kibwezi) and Japheth Nyakundi (Kitutu Chache North) criticized former President Uhuru Kenyatta for allegedly fostering division within the late MP’s family by sponsoring Bina’s candidacy. They said, “They asked the former head of state to respect President Ruto and retire from active politics honorably, or risk being dragged in the mud of politics.”

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar described the family dispute as regrettable and appealed to local elders to encourage Bina to withdraw her bid. He assured that she would be given a chance to meet President Ruto and reach an amicable solution that leaves both siblings in a favorable position.

Also contesting the seat is former Kinna Ward MCA Isaack Fayo, representing the National Economic Development Party, recently registered by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

Kenya Kwanza leaders held rallies in Garbatulla and Kinna towns before attending a fundraising event at Algani Girls Secondary School. The event successfully raised at least 10 million shillings to support school infrastructure development.
