Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has raised concern over the handling of the violent attack against him, alleging that some of the suspects linked to the incident are still known and continue moving freely in parts of Kisumu and Nakuru despite being identified, raising questions over enforcement and accountability.
Speaking before the Senate Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations on Thursday, Osotsi said the matter should be treated not only as a security issue but also a political one, insisting that senior officials in the Interior Ministry must account for what happened.
“I am the victim, and I thank God that I’m still alive,” he said, adding that, “by now, we will be talking about a by- election in Vihiga, and I think the committee should give me some leeway on this matter.”

He questioned the progress of investigations, saying there were inconsistencies in official communication and alleging that some suspects had still not been arrested despite being identified.
“The police in Kisumu know these people. The public in Kisumu know these people,” Osotsi said, adding that some of those linked to the attack were still being seen in public places.
He further claimed that some of the suspects were even present during court proceedings linked to the case without being arrested.
“Some of these assailants were in court. When the three colleagues were brought in court, they were among the audience in the court, and they were not being arrested,” he claimed.
The senator also suggested that the incident had wider political links and said accountability should be addressed at the highest level of the Interior Ministry.
“It will be very unfair to continue with this meeting without these two important people who bear political accountability,” he said, referring to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.
His remarks come after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen told the National Assembly Departmental Committee on National Security that some of the suspects linked to the attack had fled the country.
Murkomen said security agencies are working with counterparts across the border to trace them, adding that they will be arrested once they return.
“What happened to the Osotsi issue is that the DCI circulated the pictures. Three of them presented themselves. The rest of the 13 or 14 ran out of the country to the neighbouring country,” Murkomen said.
He also confirmed that three suspects have already been charged in court over the April 8 attack, which was captured on CCTV at a Kisumu hotel and showed a coordinated assault on the senator, where he was beaten and briefly dragged before being rescued.
Osotsi has maintained that all those involved must be fully investigated and held accountable.
