Police in Nakuru County have apprehended a suspected gang leader in an operation aimed at tackling organised crime and improving security in the area.
The arrest followed a patrol by officers from Kaptembwo Police Station earlier today, during which they received intelligence about the suspect’s whereabouts in the Gioto area of London estate in Nakuru. Acting on the information, officers launched a focused operation that led to the suspect’s capture.
Authorities say the individual had been linked to several robbery with violence cases and had gone into hiding after evading an earlier police operation. His arrest marks a breakthrough in efforts to track down individuals believed to be behind such crimes.
During the operation, officers recovered a dagger from the suspect at the time of arrest. He was taken into custody without resistance.
Police later extended the operation after the suspect guided them to a makeshift house believed to be his hideout. A search of the premises led to the discovery of a homemade pistol hidden inside a blue canvas bag.
All items recovered during the operation have been secured as investigations continue. The suspect is expected to be presented in court once the probe is complete.
The National Police Service described the arrest as a “significant step” in dismantling organised criminal groups in Nakuru County.
Officials said the move reflects ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb crime and ensure the safety of residents. They noted that the operation forms part of a wider plan targeting individuals suspected of violent offences and gang activity.
Police further highlighted the role of intelligence-led policing in tracking down suspects who attempt to evade arrest. They said timely information enabled officers to locate and detain the suspect, bringing both him and the recovered weapons under police control.
The service assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that due process will be followed as the case proceeds to court.
Members of the public have also been urged to continue working with police by sharing information on suspicious activities and supporting local security efforts.
Authorities say the arrest is part of continued operations across Nakuru County aimed at strengthening safety and dealing with organised crime.
