Police in Molo, Nakuru County, have dismantled a suspected cybercrime ring linked to a series of fraud cases, after a carefully coordinated operation in the Tayari neighborhood.

The arrest marks a significant step in the National Police Service’s ongoing crackdown on technology-driven crimes across Kenya.

The operation was triggered by information provided by alert members of the public, who reported unusual activity at a residential house in Tayari.

Acting on the tips, officers raided the premises and discovered what appeared to be the command center of a well-organized fraud network.

Authorities seized a large cache of items including hundreds of SIM cards, several mobile phones, multiple national identification documents, and even vehicle parts, all believed to be used in elaborate cyber scams targeting ordinary Kenyans.

“Following actionable intelligence from members of the public, officers conducted a targeted raid on a residential house linked to suspicious cyber activity,” the National Police Service (NPS) said in a statement.

During the raid, eight suspects were arrested, while two others managed to escape.

Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the remaining suspects.

Investigators are now examining the recovered items to map the full extent of the criminal network.

Preliminary investigations indicate the syndicate allegedly used stolen personal data and forged identification documents to defraud victims through mobile money transactions and online platforms.

“This operation is part of the ongoing, intensified efforts to combat all forms of crime, including digital and technology-driven offenses,” NPS added.

The police lauded the public for their critical role in providing tips that led to the bust, emphasizing that collaboration between citizens and law enforcement is essential in tackling cybercrime.

“The National Police Service remains committed to safeguarding Kenyans from digital and technology-driven crime through intelligence-led, multi-agency strategies,” the statement concluded.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities at local police stations or via toll-free lines 999, 911, and 112. Citizens can also provide anonymous information through #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp at 0709 570 000.
