In a press statement released on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, Nyong’o stated that this upgrade would enable the facility to access more resources, enhancing its capacity to expand healthcare services across the Lake Region and beyond.

He expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the health facility for implementing key reforms that have significantly enhanced service delivery.

Nyong’o also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting and strengthening JOOTRH by investing in capacity-building efforts to ensure efficient service provision.

“I deeply appreciate the JOOTRH Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Richard Lesiyampe, his team, and the hospital’s Board of Management for spearheading transformative reforms that have greatly improved service delivery,” his statement read.

On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, the Cabinet approved the upgrade of JOOTRH to a national teaching and referral hospital.

During a meeting held at State House, Nairobi, and chaired by President William Ruto, the Cabinet also approved Kenya’s hosting of the 2025 World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally in Naivasha, Nakuru County, from March 20 to 23.

Kenya will now host the third round of the prestigious world rally series, following the opening leg in Monaco from January 23 to 26, 2025, known as Rallye Monte Carlo.

The competition then moved to Sweden for the second leg, Rally Sweden, held from February 13 to 16, 2025.
