I’ll not deputise Moses Kuria in Nairobi governor race – Aladwa
Makadara MP George Aladwa
In Summary

In his statement, Kuria emphasised that his decision was not driven by tribal affiliations or party interests, but by a shared commitment to confronting the deep-rooted challenges facing Kenya’s capital.

Makadara MP George Aladwa has dismissed reports that he will deputise former Public Service CS Moses Kuria in the Nairobi Gubernatorial ticket in 2027.

According to Aladwa, he remains firmly in the race and will seek the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket in the race.

Nimesema mimi sikui deputy wa Moses Kuria. Nasimama governor kwa tikiti ya ODM,” the Makadara MP said.

This loosely translates to, “I have said I am not Moses Kuria’s deputy. I am running for governor on an ODM ticket.”

This comes a few days after Kuria named Aladwa his running mate in the 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial race, in a political partnership he branded “The Nairobi Dream Team.”

Kuria made the announcement on his X account, sharing a colourful campaign-style poster featuring the two leaders alongside their slogan, “Making Nairobi Work Again.”

In his statement, Kuria emphasised that his decision was not driven by tribal affiliations or party interests, but by a shared commitment to confronting the deep-rooted challenges facing Kenya’s capital.

“Not because of our tribes. Not because of our parties. Because we care for Nairobi,” he wrote, adding that the pair “understand what Nairobians are going through.”

Kuria said he and Aladwa bring together decades of leadership and managerial experience, as well as extensive networks both locally and internationally—assets he believes are crucial to fixing Nairobi’s chronic issues in governance, infrastructure, and service delivery.

“We have what it takes to make Nairobi work again,” he affirmed, presenting their ticket as a united, solutions-driven team ready to move the city forward.

The announcement marks an early start to the 2027 City Hall race, with Kuria portraying his partnership with Aladwa of the ODM party as a break from tribal politics and a shift toward issue-based leadership.

The Nairobi Governor’s seat has attracted attention from various leaders including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who has already expressed interest in unseating incumbent governor Johnson Sakaja.

With one term left, Sakaja is also keen to defend his seat.

Other interested in the position is Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, who plans to run for seat on a Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) ticket.

More are expected to make public their candidatures including independents.
