LIVE: Kenya marks 62nd Jamhuri Day
Jamhuri Day is a national holiday in Kenya, celebrated on 12 December each year. “Jamhuri,” the Swahili word for “republic,” marks the day Kenya gained independence on 12 December 1963.

In a message on his social media page, King Charles III has sent his Jahmuri Day wishes to Kenya’s President William Ruto and the Kenyan people.
King Charles III: My wife and I have great pleasure in sending Your Excellency, and the people of the Republic of Kenya, our heartfelt congratulations on the auspicious occasion of Jamhuri Day. I reflect on and value greatly the enduring partnership between our two countries, which is built on trust and friendship. I cherish the memories of my visits to Kenya and the generous welcome I have received from its people.

This, while urging residents to cooperate fully to ensure a smooth, safe, and colourful national event.
In a press briefing on Kitiyo said multi-agency teams have been deployed across the capital from Thursday evening through the end of the festivities to ensure safety and order.
Interior PS Raymond Omollo has called on Kenyans from all walks of life to turn out in large numbers at the stadium to mark Kenya’s 62nd Jamhuri Day.
