KeNHA urges caution as Kitale-Morpus Road cut off by floods

Motorists plying the route from Lodwar are advised to use the Marich Pass–Nakuru route as an alternative.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has cautioned the public that the Chapareria–Morpus section, which is approximately 1 km from Morpus along the Kitale–Morpus Road, has been cut off by flooding.

This has rendered traffic flow between the Chapareria and Sebit sections towards Lodwar unsafe for motorable traffic.

KeNHA has called on motorists plying the section to be cautious as rains continue to pound several areas of the country.

“Motorists are strongly advised to exercise caution and strictly adhere to instructions issued by police officers and traffic marshals on site to ensure their safety,” KeNHA said.

Motorists plying the route from Lodwar are advised to use the Marich Pass–Nakuru route as an alternative.

The agency said it is currently working to restore passage in the affected area, and motorists are urged to exercise patience.

“The Authority appreciates your cooperation as it works to ensure the safety of all road users,” it said.

KeNHA’s advisory comes at a time when the country is experiencing heavy rains that have triggered flooding, rendering several roads impassable and displacing families across various parts of the country, especially in major towns and cities.

In its latest forecast, the Kenya Meteorological Department warned that heavy rains will continue across the country until Tuesday, March 24.

According to the advisory, heavy rains are expected in Central Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, the Southeastern lowlands, the Coast, and Northern Kenya.

Floods caused by heavy rainfall in the country have so far killed 81 people.
