Police in Busia County intercepted a motorcycle near the Kenya–Uganda border, seizing about 100kg of suspected cannabis and arresting a suspect, in an intensified anti-narcotics crackdown.

Police in Busia County have arrested a suspect after intercepting a motorcycle transporting three sacks of suspected cannabis sativa weighing approximately 100 kilograms near the Kenya–Uganda border.


The narcotics were recovered and secured as exhibits, and the suspect is currently in police custody pending arraignment.


According to the National Police Service, the operation is part of intensified efforts to curb the trafficking and cross-border movement of narcotic drugs, which pose significant risks to communities and contribute to transnational crime.


During a police patrol in Busia Sub-County, the motorcycle carrying the cannabis was intercepted, marking a significant breakthrough in the county’s ongoing anti-drug campaign.


“The National Police Service remains steadfast in its commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of the public,” NPS said in a statement.

Officials note that ongoing vigilance and community cooperation remain critical to sustaining momentum against narcotics trafficking.


The suspect is expected to appear in court soon as investigations continue into the source and distribution networks of the recovered cannabis.


This operation highlights Kenya’s broader strategy to tackle illicit drugs and strengthen security along its borders, ensuring that communities remain safe from criminal activities.
